Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly chaired by Hon. Lt. Gen. James Wani Igga on 12th August 2008, listened to the statements from the GoSS Ministers of Industry and Mining, Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development, Trade, Commerce and Supply, Regional and International Co-operation, Minister of Internal Affairs, Governor of Central Equatoria State and Commissioner of Juba Town on Mushrooming Petrol Stations in the Residential Areas in Juba Town.

The august House commended the statements rendered to the House by the concern Ministers on the issue. The House directed the Committee of Energy, Industry and Mining  in the Assembly to carry an investigation on the issues of the intended petrol station operating around Juba Airport and near schools and report its findings to the Assembly in the first week of September.

The House also directed the immediate closure of the Petrol Stations under constructions in the Residential Areas and those operating in the Containers.

  • AWEPA and EU Offers Computer Training for SSLA MPs and Staff

    Speaker SpeakerAn inhouse training in Computer for all the MPs and staff of SSLA is currently going on. The project which was aimed at capacity building for the Assembly MPs and staff is supported by Association of European Parliamentarians (AWEPA) and European Union (EU).  The Assembly has already graduated the first batch of 25 staff on 12th March 2008.
     These two Organizations also helped facilitate Study tour for MPs and staffs, equipping  the SSLA Resource Center with 25 New Computers and the Assembly Website project.  
    The Assembly Website launched on the 28th May 2008, is going to be one of the modern tools of technology for taking the Southern  Sudan Legislative Assembly across the world for the world to know what the Assembly in Southern Sudan is doing.
    In his speech during the graduation of the first batch of the staff trained in Computer, Dr. Jan the president of AWEPA assured that AWEPA will continue to support those developmental projects in the Southern Sudan especially in the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly to enable the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly catch up with the technology of the time.  He said, world wide, Parliaments are going towards what is called e-parliament; SSLA too most go for that.
